Adelaide
Adelaide is usually associated with the city of churches, but of late it's also being noted for different reasons. Some might say some of the best party nights in the country come out of this little city of 1.2 million. Here is a short selection of this city's favourite places, people, clubs, cafes and fashion houses, presented with great thanks by Paul Hodder (LTL), Damion (Squish), Bee, Louise and Andrew (Quro).

NIGHTLIFE

THE PLANET
It's definitely one club which has dominated the Saturday night House vibe since its opening night just under two years ago. The capacity of the main room, which is split into two levels, is around 2500. By day the club is a multicultural restaurant that caters mainly to the business people that work in the area, but by night it is transformed into the largest and currently the most popular nightclub in Adelaide.

'Pleasuredome' on Saturdays is the biggest night of the week, with DJs Brendon, ATB and Madness playing upfront House all night. Because the club is so big and so is the scope of clientele.

CARGO
From one club that is the youngest to one that is near the oldest, best known as "Cargo". After a decade of success it still thrives and is without a doubt the most experimental venue in Adelaide. Cargo's big nights include "Cream" on Wednesdays with DJs ATB and GTB playing groovy house to progressive.

KRAMER'S BAR
Another small club which has been doing well in its early stages. With a 400 capacity, two rooms and a couple of regular nights have just started to rock.

THE CAFES

OTTOMANS CAFE - 265 Rundle St.
Ottomans Restaurant / Cafe is certainly something a little different. This Turkish style restaurant blends traditional with the modern. Ottomans caters for a full meal with all the Turkish trimmings, but also serves an extensive range of wines and other alcoholic beverages. They make a great cappuccino and a huge range of cakes.

BONJOURNO'S CAFE - Rundle St.
This cafe is the place to be if you are in the know. At any time of the day or night, you are guaranteed to run into a DJ, promoter, clubber or just a lonely journalist like myself. With the best cappuccino in town and an extensive Italian menu, you can't go wrong.

ADELAIDE'S AIRWAVES
text - Andrew Bradley

Adelaide's transmission of music genres falling under the umbrella of dance is limited almost entirely to the fringes of community radio. Local stations 5UV, Coast FM, and 3D Radio, all carry programs which could be included in an examination of dance music radio in Adelaide. Two programs which have become essential listening in Adelaide's dance music culture are Dreaming Daises and 93.7 Degreez In The Shade, both found on 3D.

EVERYONE KNOWS THESE GUYS
NATHAN HUGHES aka DJ BOF
Nathan better known to most as Bof, has been DJing for around three years. Bof doesn't totally rely on DJing for a living and has been known over the years to hold down jobs as part time crowd controller, security guard and door host. And if that is not enough for one person to do, Nathan is also one half of the rave promotion team Continuous Flow.

ULTRAWORLD
Ultraworld Productions is made up of two local Adelaide DJs - MPK (Daniel Michaels) and Noddy (Josh Fechner). Both are currently employed by Heaven Nightclub to present their Thursday nighter, "Chemistry", and also DJ just about everywhere around town.

LARGER THAN LIFE
LTL was founded in 1989 by Paul Hodder and is probably one of the longest running promotion teams in the state. LTL have been credited with some of the biggest nights in our recent club history. Over the years LTL have been also responsible for releasing mix tapes and CDs. In addition, they have been involved in tour management for International & Australian artists.

DIRTY HOUSE RECORDS
Originally an offshoot of the successful Juice label, Dirty House Records has made its mark not only in Adelaide, but around the world. The Dirty House crew consist of DJ HMC, Cinnaman and Padee.
